shall we dance?

Nov 14, 2011

You know....every girl needs romance. I'll never forget the time I went salsa dancing when I was in college. It was so much fun! Watching these videos makes me want to go dancing again. It's so much fun to just let someone lead you on the dance floor and give up control to the music. I feel alive and attractive (silly, right?) when I'm dancing (and I don't mean club dancing. I just feel stupid when I do that!).

Need an example of what I mean?

(ignore the spanish!)

1. After work Friday, M and I decided to try to tackle a small section of the millions of leaves on the ground. We raked, piled them in the truck, dumped them in the back of our property, and repeated about ten times. By the time we were done we looked at what we had accomplished and just laughed because it was such a tiny part of the yard. I guess it's a good thing we enjoyed spending time together outside! It makes me think of my own version of Frost's poem..."and piles to go before I sleep, and piles to go before I sleep".

2. M had to work every night this weekend, so while he was sleeping Friday evening I baked a batch of my best-yet cookies. I've tried a bunch of recipes and this one was the best. It was a simple recipe, but the difference, I think, was that it called for melting the butter but then chilling the batter for an hour before baking it.

3. Some friends in Nashville had an extra ticket to the Vandy vs. Oregon game and invited me to come along when they found out I was home bored. I was thankful because it was going to be a long night! M had been asleep since about six and was going into work at 11 that night. It was a good game, I enjoyed the company, and it was nice to be out of the house.

4&5. On Saturday, M got home about 7am, watched the Nebraska game until 3, then went back to bed for his 2nd 11pm to what ended up being 11am shift. I decided I wasn't going to just let my day be ruined because he had to work. I got up and went into town to shop for Christmas decor. I got some $1 glass vases and some small cheap ornaments and started on the top of the piano. I plan on getting some lights and garland to add there, too. I also started wrapping some of the gifts we already have.I've also taken advantage of ordering some things online and am expecting them this week!

6&7. M's parents sent me an early Christmas present in the form of money to buy curtains. I finally found these at Z Gallerie in Nashville at Green Hills Mall. I love the modern, geometric pattern. They look navy in the picture, but they're supposed to be "charcoal" or "ash" gray. I've figured out that my new color is gray. Hopefully that doesn't say anything about my personality...or does it?

This week M has training in Nashville, so I'm going to hope the week goes by fast and try to get some things accomplished. There is only a week and a half until we leave for Virginia and I couldn't be more excited! Bring on the Holidays!

.....well not yet. BUT....for the past week I've been playing Christmas music and getting so excited about decorating. I'm over Thanksgiving already and it hasn't even happened. I'm over pumpkins and scented pine cones. Bring on the lights, the tree, the smells, the garland.M and I will be some of the first customers to the first Christmas tree stand in our town-although I can promise you M won't be nearly as excited as I will be. I just don't get that- but I'm learning to accept that some people just don't get excited about things.

Anyways, I've had the Christmas station playing on Pandora all week and it's got me feeling so nostalgic.  This Christmas will be our first as a married couple, meaning our first Christmas in our new house in our new town. Technically, we'll be in Virginia on Christmas Day, but we'll still be able to decorate, have a tree, open gifts...the works.

It's funny...when I explain things to M about how much I'm looking forward to something, I explain it in detail that just wouldn't occur to him. For example: "I can't wait 'til Christmas! I can't wait to have candles going, and Christmas music playing, and a quilt on the floor in front of the tree for us to open presents on and hot apple'll be so special and romantic!" M's response: "Why can't it just be that you're excited to open presents? Why all that extra stuff?".

So you see my struggle? I feel so alone in the Christmas excitement. I'm hoping M catches on soon. Although, I know I just need to accept the fact that I married someone who isn't as passionate as I am. And that's okay. I'll just wait until we have children and watch them get as excited as I do about the Holidays.

Friday night, we went to Jackalope, a brewery in Nashville, with some friends for some pre-dinner drinks. The beer was pretty good (according to M)and the atmosphere was really relaxed.  I loved the decor on the walls and the natural wood tables that each had some kind of quote engraved in them.

After drinks, we went to Tavern for dinner. I loved that atmosphere, too. It took us awhile to get seated and get our food, but we had such a good time with everyone that it didn't really matter. For dessert, we all shared the S'mores. It was delicious!

On Saturday morning, I met my friend Amber and her mom and went to the local Christmas in the Country at the high school. After we walked around there for awhile and they got a few things, we went downtown to my favorite local coffee shop and had lunch. Afterward, I came home and watched the football game with M. I found it really hard to pay attention to the game and actually got a pretty good nap in the fourth quarter. I try, I really do!

On Sunday, we went to Nashville to have lunch at one of our favorite places, Whole Foods, and get a few things there. We also went to several stores looking for curtains. I ended up finding some I LOVE and also got some cute Christmas decor at Marshall's. I love the globe and the reindeer. I can't wait to decorate for Christmas!

This evening, I fixed some Chicken Noodle Soup and M burned some of the thousands of leaves we have in our yard. You'd be amazed at the amount - no ground to be seen here! We finished the evening on the back porch, M in short-sleeves and me in a coat and gloves, sipping our soup and enjoying conversation by candle-light. It's been a good weekend, but it's gone by so fast. I'm looking forward to a week of getting things accomplished - at work and the gym!
